The Second City

The Second City

A Poem by Maddie

The lights
They shine like diamonds
The music fills the air
Engulfed in hot jazz

They dance
Pretty women scantily dressed
Oozing in jewels
Emeralds, sapphires
Putting on a show

Gentlemen walk the room
Coated in suits and manners
In the era when men were men
Charmers and ballroom dancers
Respectful and gorgeous
Much unlike now

They live
They laugh
The fireworks explode like pixie dust
Streamers
Glitter and Charleston
Lights and camera's
Disasters and actions

Extravagance dripped from the walls
Smoke filled the air
Love was true, at least people believed this was -

The era of light
The era of passion
The era of music
The era of fashion
The era of life
The era of love
The era where everything was not enough
