The Great Red DragonA Poem by KenazA poem for BlakeThe Great Red Dragon What beast is this that lurks in the darkness And hides its hideous head from the world? From the depths behold, a great red dragon! Boasting seven heads and ten monstrous horns, Atop its horns are seven diadems And large iron teeth, devouring all, Trampling all that remain, underfoot. The woman, clothed in the sun, hides her face, But the beast bides for her unborn babe, To consume him, the child of the sun, And thus snuff out the candle of God’s hope. With his tail he sweeps the stars from heaven At least of third swiped clean out of the sky! Seeing this, Michael calls his angels to arms, To defend heaven from the faithless fiend. Michael’s sword strikes the dragon’s sturdy skin, But the dragon and his angels fight back. Hand to hand and soul to soulless they fight, But the mutant is heaved out of Heaven And hurled headlong toward the fires of Hell, Along with his myriad host condemned. © 2014 KenazAuthor's Note
