We bring them into this world, watch them grow and learn, we love and protect and support and then one day it is time for them to find their own way and we stand back with a mixture of pride and worry and just hoping, or knowing, that come what may, they have what they need to make it through to a porch of complete memories...I imagine you must feel a little like this with Trev. :-D Though his past being a part of who he is has him backtracking at times, he's headed in a good direction, learning and growing and finding his feet, learning to love and be loved and dealing with the demons that he has picked up which are of a particularly raging sort.
From those initial blushes to this, a poem that expresses need, a vulnerability admitted in need or at least some would say. A willingness and an openness are perhaps better translations, a willingness to be open and as such pride can ride high for with that he has the makings of not just reaching for but living with the stars, so to speak.
In all of Hyneria, I doubt he could have found someone more good for him than Em. :-) The last sentence shows that as well as, and perhaps more so than, the rest of the Em and Trev chapters. His words are beautiful in their simplicity and "authenticity". Hynerian hearts are not so very different from ours. "I need to be held in the heart of another", I plain love that.
As said before, the heart in which he needs to be held is not random, nor the lips, the whispers or the eyes and as such it expresses not a need to receive as much as a need to share, the whispers only matter as much as the whisperer to put it in layman's terms. :-) This is the genius of this particular chapter bookended as it is with Em's response. That and the heart-felt - as in all hearts -, beautifully expressed words (needs).

When I was in college I was told I should not consider a career in writing. For the next 20 years I wrote nothing. About three years ago, I discovered blogging and fractals. I started posting fractals.. more..
