Giving Life Permission

Giving Life Permission

A Chapter by Tesa

Is it not amazing
that we human beings
can direct our awareness
to anything we want:
our big toe,
our bank account,
a nuclear plant in Japan,
a child in Africa,
war in the Middle East,
an island in the Caribbeans,
the Milky way,
or the entire galaxy?

If we can direct our attention
anywhere we choose,
where is the best place to put it
while we meditate?

Some say “focus on your breath.”
But if life can effortlessly orchestrate
the gazillion operations
that smoothly operate my body,
would it not make sense
to give it permission
to prompt and direct my attention,
rather than let my mind decide?
Have our minds not done a poor job
of running this world?

Why would I let it direct my life?
I would much rather explore
what happens when I let my awareness
free to go to where it is naturally drawn.

I call it following life.
