What Does It Take?

Have you ever wondered
what a seed needs
to harness enough life force
and grow strong enough
to break free
from its shell?

And have you wondered
what it takes
to fearlessly grow
through darkness,
reach up for light,
and stand tall
on earth?

A bit of fertile soil,
a little stillness,
enough water,
a lot of sun?
What else?

What does it really take
to fulfill one's destiny?
What ignites and fuels
that journey?

I want to know,
What kind of soil
and what kind of sun
we humans need
to sprout and bloom?

Someone early on to nurture
the inner knowing
that we can?

A hand to catch us
when we fall?

Some rare soul
teaching us
to trust our gut.

As I'm thinking
about the seed
I'm inclined
to believe that
listening and
surrendering  
to the life force
and power within
is really the key thing.

Or else how do you explain
that a blade of grass
can so often manage
to break through
concrete?
