My Rainier

My Rainier

A Poem by Terry Lynn
"

Reflections and memories of living at the base of Mt. Rainier in Washington State

"

Growing up I never knew

Of the magnificent glory that always loomed

In the distance or right up close

Protruding through the clouds

Or transparent as a ghost

Green and bright or covered in snow

The natural beauty so few really know

Towering trees and mossy forests

Bees and dragonflies taunting tourists

Bridges, waterfalls and trails all around

Climbing upon them laughter abounds

Skipping school and going for a drive

Up on the mountain, a great place to hide

Or browsing the giftshop for uncommon rocks

Sittting in the observatory, quiet talks

Or driving with my Dad through the foggy haze

Then sadly back to Arizona to spend my days

The memories of this wonderful gift

The peaceful giant in our midst

A very nice poem about one of earth's beautiful places. It has been many years, but I used to marvel at that snow-capped peak and others when I was stationed in Washington state. You must have really enjoyed growing up in the shadow of that mountain.
