User: Bye Cleverbot: Sayonara ** The Turing test, created by British mathematician Alan Turing, is a method to determine if a computer possesses intelligence. To pass the test, the computer has to trick a human into thinking he or she is talking with another person and not a computer. In 1950 Turing predicted that by the year 2000, we’d have computers with artificial intelligence capable of fooling human judges as much as 30 percent of the time. However, computers haven’t managed that, but they’re coming close. In 2008 a computer fooled 3 of 12 judges: 25%. Programmers around the world meet annually at the Loebner Prize Competition, with some of the most advanced AI programs that will try to pass themselves off as human in conversation. Three of the previous programs are available online. I involved one of them, Cleverbot () in this story. © 2012 terranova |
