Alphabet soupA Poem by KilmerHe's it.Universally It is a shame to fall in love with words For words can not replace the absence of affection Women and men have ingrained this in my head: Don't trust him if he says he loves you But forgets the color of your eyes Don't trust him if he says your house feels like a second home But forgets your dog's name Don't trust him if he says you're special But forgets you're rarity as soon as the liquor hits his tongue I've been a disciple to these orations Putting actions before words My heart hopes for the best Less and less While I was once jostled and broken by reality I now expect to be forgotten by those who kiss me after thirty minutes on the first date And then, someone delivers a new sermon He tells me that what I know about the "useless" bond between love and words is false He tells me that if the words are proven true, time after time, there is no shame in falling in love You tell me I am beautiful and deserve to feel love And when your pale hands graze over me It is like the sunlight from noon to six sweeping over everything washing my landscape in orange and gold and like a flower I bloom for you I commit the sin I fall in love with your words If I'm going to hell sing me to sleep
