Sober Raspberry

Sober Raspberry

A Poem by Kilmer

I realized the familiar smoky-sweet scent that fogged up from my phone screen and reverted back into my mouth, was the one you had on your mouth that night you stayed until 3 in the morning.
My mom had to drive you home 2 hours before dawn and it was freezing but you snuck out your side fence and skated to my house anyway

It must've sucked, huh?
Pushing yourself up that big hill just for a chance to see my wide eyes look up at you another night
Well now I know the hell that hill caused to your bones
I felt the same pain in mine when you said you liked me better as a friend.
And I know you must've been freezing because of the way your body quaked and shivered underneath me
But you probably weren't as cold as I am now

I didn't know that scent I exhaled was due to the flavor of the papers you use for your tightly packed joints
I also didn't know how fast you could smoke through your cannabis cigarettes like having marijuana ingested into your lungs was better than air itself
Although it wouldn't be the first time i underestimated your ability to eagerly get rid of something you used to crave
You said you were sober the first nights we spent together
I should've f*****g remembered how god damn easy it is for you to lie to me
