The Concept of Loyalty

The Concept of Loyalty

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Loyalty lies low in many hearts,
Because we don't always know who we should please,
Friends? Lovers? Family?
Each one could stab you with ease,
Yet, here we are,
Offering trust in hopes of a favor returned.

Loyalty is a strange concept.
It hinges on respect,
And no matter how much you give,
There's no guarantee you'll receive.
So, why leave yourself open?
An innocent ready to bleed for loyalty.

Tessa Melendez
Day 20 of the May Prompts: Bleed For Loyalty. I have to be honest, I've been pretty uninspired of late. Especially when I was trying to write this one. Oddly enough, I feel that someone's loyalty to me broke. I have no answers yet. But, it screwed up my thought processes whilst writing this so, I just left it be. I didn't feel up to rewriting it.

Why leave yourself open, indeed? You are a smart woman. You get it. Kudos to you.
