Poetry for Tortured Minds

Poetry for Tortured Minds

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Is it strange or endearing...
that poems are what my pains are rearing?
I turn my tortured thoughts into works that can be bought.

But happiness cannot
find a home within my heart.
Merely an inn,
A cinema even,
To witness the rainbows,
Then leave in a day or two.

Happiness cannot look upon the dark side
the way the dark can look upon happiness.
Like a wolf relishing the struggles of its prey.
The prey, keeping its eyes closed in fear of the problem before it.

Poems, I suppose,
Are my attempt to help the two combine.
Perhaps, in my stories too?
I can't be sure.

But, I do know,
That with these works,
I can try to bring hope,
Maybe peace.
Put other tortured thoughts at ease.
Thinking,
"There's another like me."

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Day 18 of my May poetry prompts. Today's topic is: Tortured Thoughts. I wanted to write one discussing/portraying tortured thought processes in the piece but, I feel like I've written that before so, I stuck to my usual writing based on a quote that inspired a nice thought process for a piece.

I am 20 years old and have been writing since I was 12 years old. I started as a story-writer, I'm more of a poet now. My stories have kinda fallen off and the poetry comes more easily now, more as a .. more..
