Warring Voices

Warring Voices

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Every day,
My mind is encompassed by the whisper of many voices,
So many that they seem to become one.
They nag me and pull me every which way,
Hoping to impact my choices.

But that's only a mere fraction of their power.
When they come to me
in my darker hours,
Their power expands
from mousy tones to deafening roars.

You see,
They war within my mind,
A battle of two kinds,
And the villain often wins
On the bad days.

The good days,
When the voices whisper,
The angels and demons wrestle
And the angels win without issue.
In those moments,
I try to remember what it was like when the number of voices was one.

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Day 7 of the poetry prompts for the month of May. Topic: The Whisper of Many Voices. I had to question myself on whether or not I wanted to get deeper into it or not and when I typed it, I figured I'd leave it like this for now. I've been really trying to be more consistent and less lengthy with my pieces. Maybe I'll make a part two. There are a couple pieces I wanna make a part two of but, the inspiration just hasn't hit me yet.
