Silence of the Night

Silence of the Night

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

Why does the night
carry such mystery?
What is the reason?
With a pale moon so lonely,
And stars that change throughout each season?

Why is it that peace and pain
can both prevail under the winking abyss?
Is something amiss?
Or does the silence assist
with the existence of our true selves?

Some say the silence of the night is meant for us to rest,
But I say it's time to reflect,
Release the you the day can't really see.

Take a deep breath and allow the tension to ease,
Become one with the moon,
As her distance and loneliness speak volumes
And the day's strength is sapped away by her luminescence.

Nothing can compare to the abilities of Night
And how she can even make grown men crumble.
No one can carry internal weight without a single stumble.
Unless one truly carries such might as to be at peace with it.
Why else would storms come,
Even during the night,
Hiding the precious moon from sight.
Disrupting her rehabilitating quiet.

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Day 2 of the poetry prompt challenge for the month of May. This one's topic was the silence of the night. I kinda struggled with this one and had to look up some quotes to find inspiration. I kinda tied a couple together and took off.
