Eyes of BlueA Poem by Tessa Melendez
It began with me sitting at a table
Per usual, I was silent Music blasted in my ears It seemed like I'd been lost in my pain for years The song seeped into my mind Bringing tears to my eyes No one noticed me I was the one they didn't see Lost in my sorrows and pain I didn't hear the screams Looking up, I was blind A thin, dark figure was all I could see Something slammed into my chest I was blown into the table behind me Staying awake took my best As my vision went black There was a roaring pain in my back My ears rang Someone said my name The voice echoing... Echoing... Arms slid around me to form a cradle Someone familiar with hair of sable He looked to my chest Near my ever-aching heart He touched the wound there Letting out a long breath of air His fingers came away black His eyes were closed now His beautiful eyes closed I don't know how Finally he looked down at me But, I knew he couldn't see Tears blinded his blue eyes Beautifully blue as the sea Eyes I loved most I lie in his arms limp as can be He pulled me into his embrace Tears rolled down his cheeks "I love you" Words I'd never heard him speak My heart could skipped a beat Death stood over me like a giant "Let go" I whispered Nearly silent He buried his face in my neck "I love you" he cried And Death took me away on wings black as night Then I woke The words passing my lips "I love you too" "But you never knew"
