Letting Go

Letting Go

A Poem by Tessa Melendez
"

When you finally just let go of someone you thought you wanted or loved.

"

Many a day I spent wanting you

Many a day I spent searching for you,

Seeking out some way to understand your labyrinth

I traveled down hallways and corridors

Never did I find so much as a clue

You knew my thoughts

You knew my feelings

The way you spoke to me was so appealing

Every talk a comfort to my racing heart

Every moment with you a delicate art

But, as each day passed

I lost interest in searching your labyrinth

My feelings for you died

There hasn't yet been a day that I've cried

I'm finally letting go

I'm finally letting go

This time there are no tears

This time there are no sobbing "Why?"s

This time there is no pain

This crush is simply passing by

I'm finally letting go

You had your chance to be mine

You had your chance to love me back

You had your chance to make those sweet kisses last

You had your chance to have a real love

I'm finally letting go

You have no need to think about the girl in black

The girl that sat beside you in class every other day

The girl with the invisible weight on her back

No need to worry about the girl with drawings on her arm

I'm finally letting go

You can do what you like

You don't need to look at the girl with so many issues in life

No need to force smiles as you pass that girl in the hall

She has given up

I'm finally letting go

That girl no longer wishes to be yours

As you move on without a care

Days will pass by where you forget her more and more

Days will pass by and you will become one less issue for her to bear

I'm finally letting go

As you find a new life

Passing her by once more

Her last words to you will be

"I'm letting go."

Author's Note

Tessa Melendez
Poured this out from the heart. Phrasing was difficult. But, I think I needed this. It's one of those moments where writing is a better therapist than most anything else.
I feel like I lost all sense of rhyme scheme as I got into the emotions though. Suggestions for improvement welcome. :)

I really like this piece too, I noticed you mentioned in your author's note and in a review that you lost your rhyme scheme as your emotions got to you. Perhaps it wasn't intentional, but maybe it is symbolic of you letting go, rhyme scheme and all. The best part is that throughout, there are little pieces of a rhyme scheme, symbolic of how hard it can be sometimes to let go. It is a really good poem though, I can feel the emotion and even the feeling that, somewhere hidden, deep in your heart, there still was a bit of a wish that he might care about you the way you care about him. Great read, I think I needed this poem too so thank you

I can feel your pain. It is so hard to let go and capture the struggle of letting go and moving on so vivid in this writing. Love it. N.

Thank you for reviewing my piece. It is much appreciated.
Speechless!!

When a person writes something from the heart the page becomes a place of thoughts... You are fabulous in this piece of heartfelt write... Every thought you have poured here is full of feelings and the sadness that you have encountered in the relationship you were in... I know each and everything you meant here... It reminds me of the days when I used to cry to find a way to let her go but I was helpless but then a moment came when every drop of tear faded away and I finally let her go...

It is a poem that bears a message that no matter how hard it seems one can always have the choice to let go of the person who doesn't deserve him/her... Excellent job frnd... Thank you reminding me those days...

Sincerely
Dhiman

Beautifully captured and expressed. We need to let go sometimes, for whatever reasons and just accept that one plus one sometimes doesnt add up to two in a relationship.
I really liked the detail in this, the drawing on your arm, and the closeness once shared. From meaning everything to flickering rememberances is a journey we sometimes all must take.
Great write Tessa. One of your best :)
