I once tried to show the resilience of man
By poking holes in my fingertips And drawing words of comfort in the blood: "I will heal" But the spectacle overshadowed the moral For most men care more of bloodshed than words I once tried to show the adaptability of man By carving a piece out from my ribs And planting it in a meadow with tenderness: "I will grow" But the sight of the gouge overtook the seedling For most men have only a passing interest in meadows I once tried to show the malleability of man By grinding my hand with mortar and pestle And scattering my dust into the stratosphere: "I will be everything" But the diminutive action overcame the grandeur For most men only consider their immediate connections I once tried to show the divinity of man By standing on a bustling street corner And explaining how we heal, grow, and become everything: "I am god" But my stories were overturned by faith For most men only listen when they are children And how dare I accuse them of still being such © 2011 tekphobikAuthor's Note
