![]() Nights of SolitudeA Poem by Tanya K![]() We are free only when alone. To lead we must appear invincible.![]()
Sad and bright like a funeral pyre,
She raises her eyes at the night sky. Alone at last, free to show her ire, She howls at the moon as the night goes by. Majestic, brave and chief of her pack, She hunts, fights and leads. But when the sun sets and the night is black, The solitude lets her cry as she bleeds. The moon above waxes and wanes with time, Confused, helpless she squirms as she stares. To be fragile in front of the pack is a crime, So all day she snarls, hunts and glares. Dawn breaks. Her peace shatters. She runs to her pack and they all bow down. For though power is all that matters, Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.
