Get Smart *Act 1.1 intermission*A Story by TearflowIt all started on June 1, Sitting on the peach couch in a wide room. The news reporter speaks in the television about stocks rising on the Gusher brokerage. This is where my parents work, both of them. It was 7:38 P.M when my sister arrived. Brown eyes, hazel colored short cropped hair, soft cheeks and alluring smile. Sometimes I wonder if she really is my sister since I look no where attractive as she is. "Hey Zack! had lunch yet?" She asked me. "Not yet, I'm still waiting for Mom and Dad to arrive" I replied Lazily tapping the remote. "I'll eat first then! men! I'm hungry~" She said in a playful tone as her steps thump while climbing the stairs. I make my self comfortable watching T.V as my sister, Maureen, came down the stairs and raid the fridge. Minutes passed she arrived and sat near me with a burger on her hand. *Chomp* She looked at me with her round eyes, "I'm not sharing! better get yours!" she said in a muffled voice "It's not good manners to speak while eating" I said *Riiinnggg* said the phone. We both stopped moving and turned our heads toward the sound. "I'll get! It might be my friend" said Maureen in A Cheery tone clearly expecting her friends. She walked towards the phone near the curtain with yellow drapes, her footsteps muffled by the brown carpet. I listened to Maureen's voice just in case something other than her friends is calling And I was right because Maureen suddenly yelped shouting "Dad! Dad are you okay?!" "What's wrong!?" I stood and rushed towards her. Maureen looked pale, her hands shaking "Gunfire.." she mumbled. "I tilted my head "What?" I took the phone from her shaky hands. I placed the phone speaker to my ears and heard footsteps, rushing in many directions as if they're chasing someone. Of course being a man with a grain of intelligence Dad calling + gunshots suddenly = something is not right. Said the diagram inside my head but then I realized. How about mom? since they're both working and comes home every night almost together. I hoped that I'm mistaken, the uneasiness building inside me; I went to fetch my shoes as I bolted out the door remembering myself shouting to Maureen "Don't go anywhere!" I ran on the cold pavement heading towards the local train station, Maureen's voice thinning out as my distance widened between me and our house. *Tack,Tack,Tack* Heart beating out of my rib cage, I sprinted towards the station feeling my legs burning while ignoring the stares of other people who currently thinks that I'm mad young man rushing in the station. *hah, hah, hah* my ragged breathing reminds me that I'm at my destination. Honestly, rushing from Greenford to Neasden isn't good for my health I should shape up. I breathe in deep absorbing the cold air to my lungs. *Hah,hah, hah* I calmed my breathing. I mustn't panic as they say in any situation now I know why it's not as easy as they say. The Neasden train station is bustling with people from the diverse districts of London hoping to catch their rides in time. I quickly went to get a ticket and choose the train going to Stanmore. The doors opened and people flood in. The crowd is bustling with chattering and noise. I closed my eyes calming my still running heart, I opened them again and stared at the window The world seems non-existent as my vision blur from the trains velocity as it run underground. As time passes by multiple thought and possibilities build up inside my mind about my parents situation. Some good but most are bad, especially with the gunshot one. *Ding* Stanmore, said the Announcer, I quickly hit my foot and darted out of the train. landing on the platform, the amount of people from Neasden didn't decrease in Stanmore as they beeline to the train where I just dropped of, I steeled my burning legs and went outside pushing the revolving doors of the station and out to Douglas st. I hailed a taxi and said "Mallet st. please" this is where my Old people work as brokers in Gusher. Just as I thought the worst happened, a crowd of people surrounds the building with only a thin line of police keeping them away from entering the said building. Upon observation, the building is bathed in gunshot, it's concrete walls layered with holes and cracks. It's clear windows scattered in shreds with gun shells around. My phone rang, I looked at it, it's Maureen. I answered. "Zack! I saw it in the news!" she said her voice with pure terror. "Yeah I know I'm here currently looking at the broken building." I replied taking another glance at the building. "What should we do?" She asked. "I don't know" I can hear sobs on the other line, looks like she cried huh? "Police line do not cross!" said a man in black uniform with alternating black and white pattern just below his waste. He swayed his hands as if swatting fly away from him. I took a step towards the crowd, fitting myself on the bodies of bystanders until I reached the said man. "Oh Zack, what going to happen to us now?" asked Maureen with a voice devoid of hope "Don't worry everything's going to be fine, look" I turned my head to the police. "Excuse me sir!" Yelled at the man standing with his elbows out looking like an attention w***e. "What?" He replied with an annoyed voice. "There seems to be a shootout here eh?" I said in a curious voice "No s**t sherlock, bullets won't go around walking without a shooter wouldn't in?" He replied smiling apparently feeling smart from the choice of words he used. "Yeah, say there wouldn't be any dead bodies eh? I can't seem to see any" I inquired still with Maureen on the phone. "Yep, Actually that's what freaked me out, I mean shouldn't be there dead bodies?" The man rolled his eyes up looking like performer doing a trick by putting his eyes in the back of his head. He clicked his tongue "Ah! whatever, figuring out is not my job!" looks like thinking deep is not his best field. I let out a sigh of relief "Hear that Maureen?" Apparently She did too, looks like were really are brother and sisters. "Yeah thanks, but if that's the case where's Mom and Dad" she asked a faint of hope returned to her voice "That's a good question" I replied Coyly. I lift my head up and stared at the dark skies. For now let's take things one at a time. I trudged the cold street of Mallet, bystanders scattered around like ants grouping on a fallen sweet candy. I'll go home, comfort Maureen and take a rest then tomorrow I'll look for a part time job. Intermission end.
