Twins

Twins

A Poem by emma
"

I wrote this a while ago when I got sick of being asked "omg what's it like to have a twin??"

"

Please stop asking me what it's like to be a twin

What's it like to be born alone?

What's it like to not share your DNA with someone?

What's it like to not have a life long best friend?

I can't imagine that life,

that loneliness.

I don't know what it's like to not share my birthday.

To me, you are the foreign one.

To me, your life is strange.

So please stop defining me by my brother.

You are more than who you shared a womb with.

He is not the most interesting thing about me,

and I am not the most interesting thing about him.

I don't ask you what it's like to not be a twin;

though I'd love to know how you get manage to get through life

without one.

I never saw it this way. It's been so long since i've read your work i've almost forgotten how talented you are! I like how you touch on the difficulties of balancing the constant loving company of a twin and the resentment of not being seen as an individual.

I understand you, my twin sisters go through the same thing. They are just seven and they liked your poem.
