Just Three

Just Three

A Poem by mila

It won't be four anymore.
Just three.
Just three going out for birthdays.
Just three going to church without the head of the family but still appearing strong.
Thanksgiving and Christmas will now be spent with other family members.
Yet, 5, 6 other members can't replace 1.
For the anniversary, all she'll do is cry after the phone call.
She'll cry into her sons arms in absence of her lovers warmth.
For the youngest girls birthday, she'll smile at everyone.
She'll be happy.
She will smile at her mom and brother and enjoy her time with them.
At evening, she'll receive the phone call she'd been waiting for.
By the end of it, she will break down at the absence of the man she will always love the most.
For the oldest boys birthday he will thank everyone for the birthday wishes.
His mother will bake him a cake and she will sing to him along with his little sister.
He will choose to go out later with a few friends.
When he'd return, he would get a phone call, the one he's been waiting for the most.
He will smile, laugh, but the weight on his chest will grow and he'll frown.
By the end of the call he'll shed a few tears at the physical absence of the man he's always looked up to.
Just three hurting.
Just three crying for the last one.
Just three, no longer four.

Once gone... the count becomes numb... What happens in between that small number switch... Well... Not such small feeling...

A very moving and poignant description of bereavement. Grief must be worked through; it can never be tossed aside.
