As I sway this swing this fine summer night a chorus of crickets bicker away. Canadian geese give good night their sass and often a tweet is cast from a tree. Bullfrogs desire the evening themselves in front of quick splashes made by the carp. When suddenly trills a bevy of bird as if to announce the passing of dusk. Those shutting car doors close by at the shore are brash to the air-conditioner’s hum. A dog in the distance lets go a yelp with others on Lake Drive joining right in. So slight is the movement made by this swing yet even with that loose chains give a clink. And marked the thump from Rubbermaid’s lid my neighbor lets down when saying, “Hello.” In front of the house a new baby’s cry ebbs into the air as four-wheelers turn. Within such vehicles radios blare but then speed away for peacefulness sake. Above me a plane for I know the noise a one-engine Piper makes going south. And just for a moment nearby a purr until feline shyness offers meow. But now in this dark I seize hold my cap and strike at the swoosh I know is a bat.
This is a great piece of natural life. It reminds me of summertime at my grandmother's house in the deep south. I can smell the nature in your words...feel the air.
Glorious summer! ~ A time when baseballs and bugs, picnics and sunburns go hand in hand; those sweet irreplaceable sounds of summertime laughter.
Then there are the tears of the time when summertime ends and new found love goes away again - A time when nerves are high and prices are higher, school.
The beauty of this poem is that you bring all of the elements of summer fun into the scene. Even the playful puppy to the swooshing of that bat, the ingenuity of the piece is creative.
I think Enlightenment contest would be a great home for this write (Poetic Infusion Society).
