Conundrum

Conundrum

A Poem by Richard Williams
"

Infinity and God.

"

If in the beginning,

"God" or Gods created the universe,

that implies a beginning...

and if we are to believe

that a "God" or Gods are infinite,

then by definition the "God" or Gods

waited an infinite amount of time

before they began creating.

But is it possible to wait an infinite

amount of time, even for a God?

No, it is not possible, for that would negate

what infinity is, which is boundless,

never-ending, ceaseless.

It serves no purpose to insult reality.

And if we say that a "God" or Gods are

"outside of space and time," we descend

into the meaningless, the nonsensical,

the silly and the desperately depraved.

Why would such a God enter

into the confinement of a nutshell?

Amid such stumbling, we might as well conclude

that a "God" or Gods could create

a rock of which they could not lift.
