Alofa Bread

Alofa Bread

A Poem by Richard Williams
"

Alofa Bread is back in town.

"

Alofa Bread rose out of bed

one cold and snowy morn,

put out the cat and noticed that

the flakes were made of corn.

She went outside and brushed aside

the cornflake fallen snow,

and when she did she almost slid

on white and sourdough.

She bent on down and looked around

and much to her surprise,

found little bowls of dinner rolls

with flat-bread on the rise.

She brushed more snow and found matzo

with whole wheat heels and rye;

then looking up she spied a cup

of bagels passing by.

She tossed a glance at nine croissants

beyond her Persian cat,

while in the weeds were poppy seeds

and slices of zwieback.

Alofa Bread, I've heard it said,

after taking up the grain,

mistook her chance with loaves in France,

then moved her buns to Spain.

Because my curiosity is a vicious thing, in the line where you mentioned a 'Persian cat', were you referring to the pastry (called a Persian)? If not, then that's fine, but if so, then I'm impressed. A Persian is a icing covered doughy bun that was invented (and is a very popular treat) in North-Western Ontario ;P
Random facts ftw?
Anyway, I adored this. I love your rhyme scheme (I've used a similar one myself), with the flow of the words, and the imagery... the hunger-inducing imagery...
Fantastic :D

Wonderful poem! The rhyme scheme and structure just fit well, making each word and line flowing and smooth. The crux about Alofa bread and its correlation with dough and grain, and all the food-related words you've added, made the entire poem entertaining and fresh. +Congrats on your first place winning badge to the Poetry that Rhymes contest!
