Nature

Nature

A Poem by Andrea

I’ve got something that can’t be found in any shape or form.
And you sit there
with your feeble mind
questioning the perpendicular shape that appears
before you even
know what hit you.
There is more to life than shapes and bubbles
this was made evident to me the first time I ventured into the forest after dark.
Shame you could not join me
I had tea with a barn owl.
He gave me steady advice.
I would go so far as to tell you what the advice in itself was.
To do so would defile the law of nature and
the last thing I want is for nature to be against me.
Nature is against you.
In a heaven you escape to after the sun goes down.
Nature deceives our minds
It seems like she is our friend.
I know her better than that though!
Nature would never become friends with man.
Do you think she is a fool!?
And so after I had tea with the owl,
I had a dream that there was no place to run
and no place to hide.
The darkness dawned upon me with no forgiveness and all I saw in
the distance were the haunting remains of burnt ash and cinder.
The owl told me that this was my future
that as a human I had already denied myself the freedom of the elm trees
and the scent of the great pines.
By plucking the acorns I was creating disarray of
every such thing I came into contact with.
Panic.
Breathe.
Harder.
I will destroy the forest.
