Customary Breakfast Conversations

(MANGA) - Breakfast.

Grabbing my bag as I rushed out of my room and downstairs, I greeted my parents.

“Good Morning Mom, Dad.”

“Morning Manaka.” They said in unison.

I ignored my brother as I slung the bag in my hand over the chair next to him and sat down.

“Thanks for the meal.”

It was silent for a minute until my mother spoke.

“Today's Manaka's first day so please look out for her.” She smiled at Makoto.

“Mm.” He continued eating the egg on his plate.

Hah!? That's all he has to say?!

“I'll be fine on my own.” I asserted heatedly. “I don't need some second-rate runner turned loner looking out for me.”

“Says the girl who squeals every other page while reading romance manga.” He retorted without looking in my direction.

I turned towards him still seated. “Says the guy who hasn't had a friend over since elementary school and always comes home right away!”

He finally looked my way. “Correction. The girl who squeals every other page while looking at all the pretty drawings in romance manga because she's so simple-minded she can't even comprehend basic story plots.”

“What are you some kind of pervert? Siscon! So gross." I declared in revulsion. "Move your chair you're too close.”

We stared daggers at each other while bickering back and forth as our parents continued their meal.

They were used to it.
