lord of song

lord of song

A Poem by Matthew
"

inspired by Leonard Cohen.

"

standing before the gates
with praise on my tongue
before the world had made you
you were the promised one
and i, forsaken at birth
became the damned one
and from my soul
you took the hallelujah

from the waters of uncertaintanty
you called for me
and from the shore i responded
i didn’t know just what
you would take from me
so i offered up my hallelujah

as we walked you talked
of the four storms raging
the wild beasts born of bad blood
and of our father, god above
you revealed the secrets of
sin and how to begin again
after burying the past
you ran your fingers thru
my hair and told me this would last
and with a kiss, you placed your
hallelujah on my lips

standing before the gates
with praise on my tongue
you left me here alone
after dying the promised one
and i, forsaken and cold
remember your love from
the days of old
nestled deep down in my heart
i feel your hallelujah of gold
