I've Got a Lot of Reading to Do

(This poem could be sung to the melody of "A Lot of Livin' to Do" by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams.)

 

There are books that fill all my cases.

Some are old, some flashy and new.

All those books leave no empty spaces.

I've got a lot of reading to do.

 

There are lots of topics to choose from.

There is fiction; there's non-fiction, too.

Lots of books that I get my views from.

I've got a lot of reading to do.

 

All those books are reading adventures,

And they lift me up when I'm blue.

I like to call them reading thirst quenchers.

I've got a lot of reading to do.

 

There's so much to read,

So much to learn, so much to know.

Read a book and you will grow!

I love to read books over and over--

A practice that I'd never eschew.

My stack's as high as the White Cliffs of Dover.

I've got a lot of reading to do.

 

Yes, reading MUST be called my main passion.

Can't live without it. What about you?

May it never go out of fashion.

This was a fun read, Bob. I must have 5 different books I'm reading now on many different topics so, I'm there with you on liking to read. It would be great if our young ones would pick up a book more often rather than picking up their phone or, other electronic distraction. I enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing. Temp

I always love to hear that others enjoy reading, too. But I have to focus on one book at a time. Sometimes I read two translations at the same time. For example, right now I am reading book 5 of the Harry Potter series in German and French.

Really enjoyed reading your words...Looking around my art room with my extensive collection of books..I think to myself..I have got a lot of reading to do..
BUT, my problem is that my life is so full so I have little time to read anymore. One would think that now that I am older I would have loads of time..but between, piano, art and writing poetry...and the usual everyday things ..I find I just do not have the time. Life always gets in my way!!!
Your poem has moved my thinking into...perhaps, I could find little time..as I do have a lot of reading to do.

Oh, I know what you mean. It is hard to balance all of our passions. I read and reread books, and I have been reading in seven languages, so I devote a lot of time to it. I can see how your art can lure you away from reading. I like to stitch, too. So when I am involved with a needlepoint project, I throw myself into it and stitch for hours, sometimes ten to twelve, per day. Then my reading ends up on the back burner. After I finish a project I throw myself back into reading again. I am a one-thing-at-a-time kind of person. LOL

Well, it is good to do one thing at a time.
I plan out my crazy days so I get quite abit done... I have friends that say...Just do one thing a day...but I am not going to spend just one or two hours on just one thing... I mean goodness I have an entire day. So for me being organised is the key.

Well, I suppose I am compulsive in everything I do.. I just like being organised.. and that is probably compulsive behaviour.
