A Cornered Rat

A Cornered Rat

A Poem by Bob B

Back a rat into a corner

And you will find without a doubt

That it becomes surprisingly vicious

As it angrily lashes out.

So if that is your plan of attack,

Heed the warning: be prepared!

Be sure you have the tools you need;

And, above all, don’t be scared.

The best thing to do would be

To stop the problems before they begin.

Be certain that your house is secure

So that no rats can find their way in.

Check the foundation; walk around

And fix whatever the structure lacks.

Don't let the vermin sneak inside

By making darn sure there aren't any cracks.

You can put your house in order.

Consider how much you will have gained.

But don't forget to be vigilant:

A dwelling has to be maintained.

A strong, secure house is the best

Protection against dangerous pests.

Then you can live in relative peace.

At least that is what wisdom suggests.

Your sarcasm is most delightful in this poem, after I've read several of your point-blank political commentaries. Stating your views with sarcasm adds quite a bit of subtlety, allowing the reader to take this in different directions, according to whatever is stuck in his/her craw -- also it sounds less like a rant & more like satire. Let's face it, this cornered rat is facing prosecution from many angles, so of course he's not going to leave his protective realm easily. Similarly, his offspring are sounding scared & desperate. So sad to be in the midst of this vicious infestation thru no vote of our own (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

True. I meant this to work on many levels. Thanks for your comments.
