Free Spirit

Free Spirit

A Poem by Talia

I was born a free spirit, I claim
But my soul is trapped in a jar
Like fireflies on a hot summer’s eve
The road is calling out my name
I want to ride it fast in my car
So I can be given some relief

I’ll leave my past in the dust
I’ll inhale the rubber and rust
See my old life in the rearview mirror
”Objects are closer than they appear.”

I want to be by the sea
Living wild and free
With the sand in my hair
As sea salt fills the air

Where the sky is blue, and the grass is green
I won’t wipe the clouds away from my eyes
I need to quench my thirst for wanderlust
Italy? Spain? An immediate change of scene
Watch the stars shooting across the skies
This place won’t be hard for me to adjust

I want to be where the music is loud
And I’ll be dancing among the crowd
I can feel the bass beat in my chest
In the front row at every music fest

To forever be chasing sunsets
And live with no more regrets
Where I’m living in the moment
Exactly like a starving poet

Unscrew my cap so I can live my dream

I love how your jazzy inspired poem gathers speed toward the wild blue yonder. V2 is well-crafted & the "rearview mirror" quote is killer! I love how you convey the anticipation of breaking free. Sometimes it doesn't matter where we're going -- just let's go some place different. I love that aspect of your poem, that you have no "set" idea of what or where nirvana might be. Rather, your poem just embraces whatever comes along -- each interesting diversion expressed in uplifting details (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
A song for the desire of freedom if ever there was one. Beautiful imagery and a longing for nature's uplifting ways. Reminded me of the caged bird.

This is such an intense and desperate plea of a poem as the protagonist longs for things that seem unattainable. Told in a voice appropriate to the message and in a contemporary setting with great visual cues!
