I Didn't Know

I Didn't Know

A Poem by Talia

I didn't know what love was
Til you managed to find a way into
My life
My being
My element
It was a familiar feeling, and what’s more, you stayed

I didn’t know what love was
Til you looked passed my flaws and into
My soul
My spirit
My nature
And saw what nobody ever has before

I didn’t know what love was
Til you took in my heart and didn’t mind
The cuts
The scars
The cracks
You told me ”it lets more light shine through”

I didn’t know what love was
Til you opened your arms and
Told me
Showed me
Taught me
I’m happier every day cause I know what love is

I love the structure . . . repeating the first line for every stanza & then having the triple emphasis of three strong ideas stated together to form three short lines in each stanza -- this gives your outpouring passion & feeling. It's the originality of these triple-short-line sections that keeps this from being an ordinary love poem (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
