Life is

Life is

A Poem by Trevor Bergshoeff
"

The indescribable moment when someone truly understands you. Doesn't just GET you. But understands.

"

But life just is’, he said,

‘No’, she said,

‘Life should be great!

See, the world is full of possibilities,

And you,

You have potential kid,

Potential to be so much,

And the world… it’s yours for the taking!’

‘I agree’ he said,

‘The possibilities…

 They’re endless…

Like an ocean that looks like the moon,

Or a an ‘Irish’ pier in the middle of the night,

Or singing into the wintery wind and eating ice cream…

     Just because…

And especially…

Especially sidewalks, and trees, and bridges, and rivers

So simple,

                Yet,

Endless…

And whether you’re swimming through the river because it’s more fun than walking over the bridge,

Or climbing the stairs, despite the pain, just to see what’s at the top…

Life will just be. Life just is. Can’t that be great?’

‘I don’t’ she said

‘I don’t think you see my point.’

‘No’ he said,

‘I don’t think you see mine’

‘But surely’ she said,

‘Surely, there is something for which your heart burns!’

‘Listen’ he said

                ‘Something!’ She said

‘Something that your heart yearns!

‘Yes, just listen - ’

‘Isn’t there anything that makes you weep, or anything that you want to change? Surely! Surely there is something that stokes a fire within your soul!

‘Shhhh’ he said, ‘shh’

‘It’s the little things that slip unnoticed.

See, the world is full of noise.

People are busy, and worried, and anxious and stressed and

They’re Overworked, and Overwhelmed, and undervalued.

But life is,

                Life is all around you!

Look! Open your eyes, it’s everywhere!

It’s in the skies that God sets aflame

And the clouds when they’re painted just right…

It’s the ripples in the water when the rain lightly drizzles,

                                                And the hours….

The hours that pass like minutes in the company of friends …..

And the bridges that run over rivers…

The trees that should be climbed and the sidewalks that run through them….

It’s in wind that bites your nose,

And the ocean

 And the moon

And the pier in " who cares where it is

Because life is…

Life is in the moments that pass away like the coming and going of the waves on the ocean’s shore; the beauty is in their capture before the change of the tide, if only for a second…

Especially if only for a second.’

‘Oh…’ she said

‘I understand’ she said

She understands….

She understands…

I liked the "conversation" in this piece. Because it seemed like they were talking about the same thing, then he explained that instead of clinging to moments of rare beauty and passion. Appreciate the little things that go unnoticed but are beautiful in their own right. Loved this!

Yes, that's pretty much it :). The inspiration actually came from a conversation I had with a friend.. read more
