The Transfiguration

The Transfiguration

A Poem by tcpaessler

who was I,

to have seen the face of God?

transfigured in ecstasy,

raised upon my altar

then a goddess in repose

fingers and toes

glimmers of hope

that she'd not be fleeting

but can you see her face and live?

who was I,

to have seen the face of God?

blindly it turned, saying,

"you are my love"

but knew not her own heart

and there from the start

lay the end

that had always been awaiting

for who can see her face and live?

who was I,

to have seen the face of God?

lines arranged in symmetry

our hearts were frail

tooth and nail

raised red on pale skin

oh we fell into it again

like going home

to a funeral

...
. stunning work ...
. i understand the need to "find" god ...
. i often bump into god in poetry ... just as i did right here and now ...

I wanted to take a very traditional religious story from my youth "the transfiguration" and reinterpret that image, and indeed notions of "god" through a context that makes more sense to me. Namely, finding "god" in a lover.

If you have known the moment of ecstasy, then perhaps you will understand the power of that moment I have attempted to convey.

Nice poem, i particularly like the second stanza, as it questioned the love of she who doesn't know her own heart! Keep up the good work :)

You are a painter with words. I had to read this poem a few times for the pleasure of the words and the thoughts create by powerful statements. So many thoughts create by this amazing poem.
"who was I,
to have seen the face of God?"
Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
