Feeling Blessed

“Why does this world of blood and flesh remain so mute and insensitive to my feelings?”

Asked the curious orphaned child as he joined the Evening Weekend Prayer.

For silence had long been his sole companion, ruthless and ever killing,

That mocked him at every passing moment! How he wished he could hear!!

For he had witnessed lightning storms, yet unable to listen to the roaring sensation

And cuddled with the reluctant street-dog, completely ignorant of its cries.

His silent protests at every cruel jibe were met with sarcastic attention.

Life was just too real for him. A reality full of lies!

Facing the altar, burning candles offered glimpses of hope.

His eyes sparkled with the dusky rays of the setting sun.

Mumbling faces of the silent choir suddenly appeared to elope,

As his wearied mind sought excuses for fun.

Closed eyes presented him with a mystic aura of magical spell!

A musical fairyland complete with chirps and whistles and shouts and songs,

Where Tom screamed at Jerry, and Scooby-Doo shrieked at every horror tale,

And happiness bestowed on every living soul. This is where he belongs.

Finally, he could feel his Mom by his side, smiles adorning her beautiful face

She weaved golden stories with her sweet voice, as she hugged him tight

In her arms, he discovered the precious gift of eternal solace

Even angels would feel jealous of him, Life had never been so right

As he danced to her songs, she clapped and showered all her affection.

Ecstatic as he was, he soaked in the pleasure of her cheers,

And enjoyed every bit of his newly found freedom, devoid of any tension

Now that he was not alone, he had no more fears.

As he stumbled onto the ground, someone held him back.

He could see the Father smiling, for the Prayers had come to an end.

While life for everyone was same as usual, treading on the old track,

Mother Mary had granted him lovely time for one whole week to spend.
