Fierce ProtectorA Story by theresaThe instinct to protect our young is trong.
It
is amazing that even the tamest of animals will become fierce when their
offspring is threatened by a predator. They will fight with their last breath
to prevent the young ones from being harmed in any way if they can possibly
help it. They will stand their ground staying between their young and the
danger that threatens them until it has passed. Human parents act in the same
manner. Those who are calm, gentle and kind, rarely raising their voices at
anyone become the total opposite when their children are in danger. This
feeling of wanting to protect does not change as the child goes from being a
baby to a fully grown adult. We wish their lives to be free from hurts of any
kind whether it is in mind, body or spirit. This instinct to protect is strong
and as our children grow it is difficult to stand back and let them fend for
themselves, to fight their own battles and find their own way to cope with the
ups and downs of life. For them to grow into strong, independent adults it is
part of role as a parent to go against those instincts and to be there to truly
listen with an open mind, only giving advice when asked and holding them in a
loving embrace when that is what is needed. Please feel free to share, if you
are so inspire.
