Promises

Promises

A Poem by Thomas Philmore Jackson
"

What was once said to me.

"

You promised to be there no matter what.

You promised you wouldn’t keep puttin’ me down.

You promised to take care of me.

You promised to cherish me.

You promised to trust me.

You promised things would be alright.

You promised there be no more reason to cry.

You promised to be there when I need you.

You promised we be friends to the end.

You promised you would never do anything to hurt me.

You promised to leave the matter alone.

You promised I could trust me.

You promised things would be different this time

So many promises broken into so many pieces on the floor, anyone else wants to promise me something save it.
