Tell Me

Tell Me

A Poem by R Lee Cline

Tell me what words could I say that has not already been spoken

To draw her attention, awaken her smile, just a verbal token

I could rehearse the line, if but the words, my mind could compose

No No but from the heart, it must be said, the depth of my love exposed

Tell me why I an obscure knight living in the palace shadows

THEN away she waltz's with the Duke, a very chivalrous beau

My life is ruin, my destiny a trifle, my heart's amiss

Maybe (just) maybe he will move on BUT then they kiss

Tell me why so many years has come and gone, where did I go wrong

Had I been more valiant, more cunning, or played a minstrel song

These are but idle thoughts as others recite monastery prayers

Yes Yes sad but true, my rejected love, drove me into despair

Tell me what words could I write, to help my nephew, from my fate

To draw his attention, awaken his senses, before it's too late

For I have heard, he fancies a young lass, far above his station

No (but) Yes take this fool's advise, chase away this inane inclination
