Enchanted FlameA Poem by J. M. YearyOnce upon a foggy night When the devil’s moon was full and bright
There came a sound like never before
A dreadful cry and then no more
I rushed outside to look around
Nothing afoot, no evil abound
From a passing glance, I caught a glimpse
Something lurking in the distance
I could feel its stare locked on mine
I approached ever slowly, now the time
But all I saw was the rushing creek
The bitter cold upon my cheek
I turned to leave and head to home
When off in the distance I saw a glow
Twisting and turning the amber flame
Dancing on air, calling my name
Sensual heat passionate fire
Consumes my soul, takin it higher
Higher and higher into the night
Prancing fingers all a-bright
Smoke is rising through the air
As ashes fall with bitter despair
The amber flame slowly dies
One last flicker of flame, then no more.
