With every inch...

With every inch...

A Poem by Taylor Munnerlyn

With every inch we take the world,
not knowing what will come out.
It can unleash anything inside of us.
Whether it is a simple smile,
or the monster we all have a hold of.
It can take over you with every inch of our bodies.
The monster can rip out our souls,
tear it from our flesh and make every beat,
the last beat from our hearts.
It steals our minds,
makes us stupid,
yet we live for the feeling.
We strive for it.
The flavor satisfies our every taste,
but really we are dehydrated,
from the distance of a simple smile.
We take a step forward,
but yet we are two steps backwards.
We get so far away from ourselves,
with every inch we devour.
We show no remorse,
for the simple smiles in others.
We throw away days,
as if they have no meaning.
With every inch of our souls,
we are the monsters of our world.

There is so much truth in this. It's a constant battle I think for me personally to avoid going to the bad or dark side. I work at it. I pray about it....but sometimes my bad side comes raging out like that monster you mention here. At times it's under control ...most of the time!
.well done!

Wow, I loved this piece and it has such a strong, inspiring message. As we grow up, a monster grows within us whom we are not familiar with. It strives to guide us down the wrong path in life, to make us screw up, lose our minds and very souls. The monster inside can surely destroy us if we do not take the proper precautions in taking care of it or keeping it under control. This could also relate to depression since depression brings each certain person a deadly monster who destroys us from the inside, out.
