A Hero Inside

My mother asked me to write a poem for her bestfriend who is seeing her son off.

Today is the day,
He has finally found his way.

She sheds many tears,
One for every fear,
She has dreaded this day for nineteen years.

She holds him tight,
Soon she will realize,
It is what's right.

As they say good-bye,
He is one more step closer to Semper-fi.

She will miss him as he goes, But deep down she knows,
Through the light of day,
He will always find his way.

Many days will go by,
But eventually one day,
Home he will fly.

As she reaches for his embrace,
She will finally find her grace,
Because,
What she has raised,
Is a hero inside.
