Miserable Michigan

Miserable Michigan

A Poem by Taylor Speer

I stepped out into the freezing air.

It was just beginning to snow.

The gray skies,

reminded me of the misery

that tasted metallic in my mouth

my stomach knotted up,

the torment began again.

when something kills your spirit,

sometimes space isn’t enough--

I felt fourteen again.

disgusted at how fast my

confidence fell.

not now! not now!

I thought time healed.

don’t feel. don’t feel.

“liquor before beer, you’re in the clear.”
