After Thoughts

I have to say that I've never been kissed while being interviewed by the cops. I

guess there's a first time for everything, but that doesn't mean I can't be surprised. And

surprised I was. I also don't think I've ever been bitten during an interview either.
The door opened quckily, and closed just as fast. Jayna stood there, tear-streaked

face shining in the light. Her make-up had run badly, and she used the sleeve of her new

red shirt to wipe it off her face, undoubtedly aquiring black streaks on the shirt. I'd figured

she would change her clothes. I wouldn't want to wear anything he'd touched any longer

than I had to either.
She noticed my fingers lingering on my lips and immediately sobered. I'm sure I

looked deep in thought.

"Oh my god. What did that cop do to you?" She asked accusingly, narrowing her

eyes.
"What? Oh, nothing." I stalled, wanting to know what her reaction would be

before she knew what happened. You never knew with Jayna. If she knew Zane had

kissed me, there'd be a fifty-fifty chance she'd either confront him angrily, or jump up and

down excitedly, doing her "happy-dance".

"Bullshit! I know you, Ava Marie." She looked sternly into my eyes. I turned

away, let out a small laugh, and blushed. She smiled immediately. "Oh, god, Ava! Just

tell me!"

"Okay, okay. I'll tell you." I cleared my throat, smiled, and waited an extra second

to build the tension. "All he did was kiss me, Jayna."

"Are you serious? Dude, a cop just kissed you in a hotel room, right after asking

you about being attacked. I'm kind of having a what-the-f**k moment over here. Excuse

me while understand this situation." I hugged her and we laughed.
"Nothing to understand, Jay. He kissed me once." She looked at me funny for a

second and then wiped at my cheek.

"Is that blood? Holy s**t, did he bite you?"
"Uhm, yeah. He did. Problem?"

"You're bleeding, Ava!"

"Not a lot."
"Whatever." She went to the bathroom and got two squares of toilet paper and

handed it to me. I pressed it to my lip as she fussed with my hair for a minute, and then

she widened her eyes in excitement. "Are you meeting up with him later?"

"Yeah, but only for business. To see if we can catch that...that thing."

"Oh, sure, girl. I see how it is."

"See how what is?"

"You just want it to be a secret."

"We're not secret star-crossed lovers, Jayna. Jesus, I know you want me to get a

boyfriend, but not every guy that I meet, or kiss, can be him."

"You said you wanted to meet a Swedish guy and fall in love." She pouted and sat

down on the bed. Apparently she hadn't gotten the sarcasm.
"No, I was being sarcastic! I was teasing you and your inabilty to calm yourself

whenever this kind of thing happens."

"Whatever...are you sure you don't need any help with the boyfriend search?" Her

dark brown eyebrows arched, wrinkling he forehead in the cutest way. My face

sofentened.

"No, but thanks for the offer, girlie," I said, smiling. I hugged her and heard the

door open. We both looked up to see a half furious, half worried Darren.

"I just got back from a meeting. What the hell happened in your other room?" He

asked. Jayna went over to him and threw her arms around his neck.
"Oh, god, Darren I can't even talk about it." She whispered.  He rubbed her back

and looked at me.

"We were attacked by a freaky, naked winged-guy." I said slowly.

"Whoa. You were attacked by a naked guy, Jayna?" Darren was even more furious

now. "What did he do?"

"Nothing. He only took her shirt off. He didn't get any farther because I hit him."

"You went up against a crazy, naked guy? You could've been killed! Or

kidnapped! Or kidnapped, raped, and killed! What were you thinking?"

"Oh, sorry, I was just saving your girlfriend from being kidnapped, raped, and/or

killed! In case you haven't noticed, she's standing in your arms, in one piece. Thanks to

me. So would you get off your soap box and realize what I did was not for my

benefit but for hers!" I yelled, and afterwards he calmed a bit.

"I'm sorry, and thank you." He kissed the top of Jayna's head. "Goodnight, girls.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day." After a kiss on the lips for Jay and a nod for

me, he walked out of the door of 14B, leaving us standing there, thinking.

"Anyways, when are you seeing Zane again?" Jayna asked as if nothing had

happened.

"I don't know, Jay. It's not like I got a card saying "meet me here at this time" as

he ran out of here."

"You're right."

"It's just business. Get over it."

"Whatever you say."

It is all business, right?
