Welcome to the New World

Welcome to the New World

A Poem by T.S. Rex
"

A little something I was thinking about in another one of my pregnancy-induced-insomnia episodes

"

The world is surely falling apart
Yet some claim it be at its peak
How can that be at a time like this?
Our very foundation is beginning to shriek
The blood of a child-warrior stains the sand
And our own warriors come home broken
Here is your award, fierce warrior, we say
And leave them to rot with their little token
Modern medicine is a blessing
Unless you can’t afford the premium
Then you die from the flu and infections
As senators and representatives fight over mediums
Our standards have been lowered
The children hardly pick up a book
Unless it is an easy read with nice big font
They hardly take a second look

How is it that we are civilized?
Murder and torture and war ever present
Surely soap and political correctness make it better
How does this make us better than a dark age’s peasant?
We are still the animals from the olden days
Only they pursued things in a different manner
No one is an artist for the sake of the arts
Making a buck is the motto on their banner

And I am terrified by this world
In all its wonderful advancements and glory
It sometimes feels like we’re going back in time
Like have not learned from history’s stories
I am terrified for my child
In a time where is seems all is focused on and neglected
How can I keep her safe from this place
Where even mediocrity is accepted
?
