A soft spring breeze & little deaths....

A soft spring breeze & little deaths....

A Poem by terry smith

She fumbled nervously
with the buttons
on the crisp white shirt
to reveal a scarlet corset
underneath
wondering to herself why
on men's shirts
the buttons were on
the opposite side

she was in her head
too much
& took a shot
from the bottle
on the night stand
as if it were a part
of the act
offering some to him
from her mouth
before quickly
pulling away

she had no way of knowing
of course
 that at that moment
he was thinking
just how beautiful
she was
or that he
wanted to please her
in such a way
that she would
never wish
to feel the
breath
of another man
upon her
skin

the music
had a rhythm & power
to free her body
 from her mind
& let go....
by the third song
she found it
& let it guide her

& as she
anticipated
the feel of him
upon her
trembling lips
she realized
 that he
was trembling
too

maybe their bodies
 were not worthy
of a billboard on Broadway
or a sex scene
captured on celluloid
but to them
in that moment
it was amazing
