Faking It

Faking It

A Poem by Tasteless Heart

Happy faces, happy life
Hide your struggles, hide the strife
Jokes and laughter, carry on
Fake it though you don't belong

Eat your portion, humble pie
Listen to the vows, they lie
Mask your torture, veil the pain
Put your face on, start again

Bottled anger, stifled rage
Lost and hopeless, half-insane
Made to suffer, born to cry
Melodrama made this life

There's no mercy, it's too late
Lose the battle, suffocate
Look for refuge, seek escape
Cannot fake it, failed this game.

You've got cadence nailed tight here . . . my own most meddlesome aspect of writing poetry! In fact, your cadence even contributes to the blah-blah-blah feel of this piece. This & this, that & that, over & over, the rhythm trivializing this list of very well-selected & well-expressed BS! The way the lines keep repeating that rhythm, it's almost mind-numbing, exactly like the fakeness you're describing can also do! Amazing! This poem is tight as a guitar string!
