A Father's Love

A Father's Love

A Poem by Tasteless Heart

You are the reason I live
She's why I can't sleep at night
She is my burden, my pain
You are the reason I fight

You are the innocent, the pure
I am the guilty and shamed
She is abandoned and lost
Caught in this cycle again

I am in turmoil, confused
She's holding hostage my heart
You are my only refuge
You are my light in this dark

I feel so empty and cold
There's only warmth in your face
She haunts my dreams and my soul
You are my rescue, escape

How have we come to this mess
We are so tangled and torn
Pray that this cycle resets
So that our family's reborn.

Thank you, dark times indeed.
It seems to me you are speaking about how some damaging family "traditions" can be passed down thru the generations & the narrator is standing at the crux where this damage could be passed down, but trying not to follow that hurtful path anymore in the family. Being from generations of family abuse, I wholeheartedly relate to this message. I love the way it's open to interpretation, so it fits different ways that family pass along the hurts. Great job!
