There lived a god Mordecai, who fell deeply in love with the goddess Nehemiah. Though they were very different, Nehemiah could not help, but fall in love with his assertive ways and aggressive charm. They couldn’t be anymore opposite.  Nehemiah hated the water and stayed clear from it.  Mordecai loved the water and loved to trample in the mud.  Nehemiah was peaceful and loved to spend her days relaxing.  Mordecai would rather pick fights with the other gods if they even stared at Nehemiah. They were constantly fighting. Mordecai was too over protective.  He would growl at anyone who got too close to her. Nehemiah, begin to realize their difference and felt trapped.  One day, she decided to leave Mordecai and told him, she wanted out of the relationship. Mordecai grew very angry and tried to attack Nehemiah. He vowed that someday she will pay, and Nehemiah ran off into the woods.

Nehemiah started a new life in the woods of Malachai. Soon she found herself lonely and made a decision to create beings that could keep her company. She made these creatures to resemble her character and to have her tail. Nehemiah came to call them cats. The cats also did not like water and spent most of their time sleeping, climbing trees and hanging around Nehemiah.  Mord ecai heard news of Nehemiah’s creatures  and grew angry. It was then; he decided to make creatures that were like him in every way.  They had sharp fangs and sharp instinct. Mordecai called them dogs.  Mordecai had a strong hatred for Nehemiah and he put it all into his dogs.  They were to kill any cat that came across their path.  Mordecai then sent them out into the woods.   These dogs terrorized the cats and chased them up trees. Nehemiah tried her best to protect all her cats and told them to stay close.  The dogs feared Nehemiah and never dared to mess with her.

However, there was one cat who still dared to venture far from Nehemiah’s protection.  Her name was Mahalah.  She was one of the most beautiful and free-spirit of all the cats.  Mahalah came across another dog when she was exploring the caves.  Frightened, she retracted her claws and begins to growl at the dog.
“No, Shh! Please don’t harm me. I don’t wish to harm you. I only want peace,” the dog replied. Mahalah was still not certain if she could trust this dog.
“What dog? Are you a coward and afraid you will lose? So instead u plead peace, but as soon as I turn my back you will attack. I am no fool, I know that you all are monsters.”  “No, I would never hurt you, especially someone as beautiful as you.  I’ve been watching you. You seem so free.  Will you teach me let go of my cares as you do?”
Mahalah let down her guard and walked closer to the dog .  “What is your name dog?” asked Mahalah.
“Aaron,” replied the dog.
Mahalah smiled and invited Aaron to join her on her journeys.  Mahalah and Aaron started spending more and more time together. As the days passed they secretly fell in love with each other and met up at the cave everyday.

Word got out of their secret love and the dogs confronted Aaron.  Meanwhile, Nehemiah tried to warn Mahalah to stop seeing Aaron, but Mahalah refused, declaring that she loved Aaron. When Mahalah and Aaron’s secret reached Mordecai’s ears, he was enraged. “No being of mine is going to run off with a disgusting filthy creature! I will do away with this problem once and for all.  Mordecai gathered up his fiercest dogs and planned to attack Nehemiah and her cats when the sun had set.
Nehemiah had just sung her cats to sleep, when Mordecai and his dogs attacked.  They surrounded Nehemiah and killed all the cats they captured. However, most of the cats escaped, along with Mahalah.  Once Mordecai looked at Nehemiah he remembered how he left her, and grew red.  “You thought you could just leave me Nehemiah and create these filthy beast to remind me of your likeness. You will pay! Nehemiah begged but Mordecai grabbed her by her throat. “ You fear so much of the water and there you shall spend the rest of your days.  Not as a cat, nor a goddess, but as a catfish,” Mordecai snickered.  Soon Nehemiah was transformed into a fish that had the whiskers of a cat. Mordecai placed her in the water and she sped off into the river. “Let this be a curse to all cats who venture near water.  They will become as Nehemiah, nothing more than a fish.

From that day forward, the cats and dogs were born to hate each other. It is also how the catfish became. If you dare venture near the water, some cats say you can hear Nehemiah crying in the water and you can catch a glimpse of her.  Every cat made up their mind to avoid water; afraid their fate would be as Nehemiah’s.
