Road Of Fear

Road Of Fear

A Poem by Tarry Franck

Down the road I see
A stranger walking
Do I stop and help
Or do I let him be,
The good hearted person I am
Stops and says
"Do you need a ride, man?"
He throws his back pack in
And I ask how far he's going
And he says to the end,
I ask if he cares for any specific tunes
He requests nothing
And suddenly I fear a gut instinct of doom,
I make several stops but he never is in need
A soda, restroom not even a favorite mead,
We get down a desolate road
And he demands that I pull over
So he can take a stroll,
He approaches my window
And demands me out
And leaves me holding my bag
With so many thoughts of doubt,
I carried him halfway across country
Takes my ride and leaves me to be
Holding hell in a handbag
For all passerbys to see
Does anybody stop to help me,
No and if I would have thought it through
I wouldn't be the one on the roadside
Now thumbing a ride.

I learn many years ago. I pick-up no hitch hikers. I was driving from Michigan to California one Winter. Got me a strange one. I drop him off and I knew I was lucky. A very interesting tale. Could of ended worst. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem and story.

How sad really. I was hoping for this to be a good hearted sort of poem, full of the love for humanity and feeling of happiness that we get when we do something kind for a stranger. I am sorry that it ended as it did, although the situation is always possible when we help others.

Makes you wonder if you should help. Nicely expressed.

OK,
I dont knw whether this is a true story or not but either way i dont care coz this is a truelly touching write and alot of lesson embedded in there for every single reader to learn.
for those who act like that stranger you took onboard and those who are in yo position.
but all in all, what we need is honesty and trust. if someone is brave anough to offer you help even when you are not known to them, y then rip off them??
nice write ma pal... go all the way.

That's something I'd never do, doesn't pay to be a good Samaritan if you have to worry about your own well being, good read Tarry, I was worried that the ending was going to be more gruesome.

As your niece it is my honor :)
it used to be safe to pick up hitchhikers...not anymore.....this poem illustrates the fear and logic behind leaving them for someone else to offer help. sad, i know, but,,,,,self preservation is tantamount to being safe and well.....excellent write.
