Thick As Thieves

Thick As Thieves

A Poem by Tarry Franck

When I arrived back home
My niece and I
Were not very close,
She wouldn't give hugs
Say goodbyes
Or even I Love You's,
We would barely chat
She would run in and hug another
When in a crowd
She was so shy
I didn't know how to reach her
I just wanted to scream out loud,
Obviously this was not going to be easy
Not an overnight success
And I just wanted her
To show a little love for me,
So when school started
She would ask me now and then
To help her with a few questions
That's when our friendship began,
Now I'm the one she runs to
First to give hugs
And say goodbyes
And I Love You's,
It melts my heart
To know how far she's come around
Because I thought for sure
She would never show
A love so pure,
We share so much time
Picking flowers and other girlhood things
I'm so glad she now expresses her love
And I can express mine
We are thick as thieves
But through a love so divine.
