Thank You Dad

Thank You Dad

A Poem by RTB

My back sore from the ripped flesh just torn,

My face in the corner, tears drop as I mourn,

I fear that the same will go next to my brother,

Though I know through my actions he'll be saved by my mother,

I fall to my knees he yells back unclear words,

Telling me still all the things i deserved,

Hate it or love it this is the way I protect,

He takes from my inocence through pain and neglect,

But at least my families safe from what he could do,

I take all the hits to keep the evil from you...

Heartbreaking situation, emotional piece.

Very tight, concise, and simply done, but so incredibly powerful all the same. Excellent.

A bad situation to be in I know. You just want to feel like it's deserved but you know it's not. Also trying to find a reason for it all, and trying to make sense when you're in pain.

I liked the way that you didn't go into too much detail just kept to the well chosen words in your couplets. People need to read more of things like this to highlight that this is still an ongoing problem, domestic violence isn't going away and shouldn't be ignored. I don't know if you've read my work a thousand pieces, but it is pretty damn similar in meaning and message.

Thanks ever so much for sharing honey, this was a toughie I bet

this truly emotional and such a sad situation. i hate when this kind of stuff happens in America. i hope this was not from personal experience. but if it is, my condolences. but any person who behaves like this towards their child will find a hard life is in store for them on their last few years of life. just watch. but a really good poem. it brings this kind of matter to people's attention.

I can't relate...but courage is an affair of the heart and scars are a testament of what we've come through and survived...we don't choose our pain but we do choose how we bear it...heart-wrenching dose of your reality...powerful..

This is heartbreaking... Especially having recently come out of a situation like that myself. I was taken aback by the first lines after having read the title. I like the irony of that. Well written as a poem though I truly hope that you wrote this on a whim and not from experience. :(

Wonderful piece. It speaks the truth about what happens to some children and/or teens in this cruel world. This person was brave to try and protect his family like that. Great work, I love it
