‘I Know Why the World Turns’

By Tara Jean Olson

5-4-10

Durability is necessary to survival

Intelligence, a beneficial tool

Throughout the Evolutionary process,

Life has continually progressed.

Planet earth’s crust is weathered.

Yet, like an old woman that wears purple,

With time, her taste for vibrant attire has only intensified.

Seasonal weather patterns,

Indicate reasoned incidence, for all that ensues.

An earthquake strikes a body of land,

While sparing the next town over.

Humankind is not the dominant authority

And therefore, we cannot wish away nature’s bouts.

Man is unable to manipulate nature;

 We only retain the propensity survive.

Mother Nature allots her attention

From the North Pole, to the Wild West,

Down to a southernmost point,

And up, through the Eastern corridor.

I know just why this globe perpetually spins;

The atmosphere is dictated by her current state of mind.
